What a great article about why Social Media works and why it is important – on so many levels.
This line – “It makes us feel closer to people we care for but in whose lives we’re not able to participate as closely as we’d like.” sums up perfectly why I’m on Facebook. And the opportunity to get to ‘know’ other marketers through blogs, Twitter, etc. lets me build relationships with people I may have never encountered pre-Internet.

Ramsey, Your blog shares so much wisdom! It amazes me how many people consciously choose to ignore social media as if it’s the latest strain of swine flu…Some of Twitter messages I get are a bit crazed, but overall social media serves the purpose you discuss! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

These are some great observations. I love the way social media puts me in touch with people who share a lot of my interests whom I would never have met under other circumstances. I may not have the depth of relationship I have with more long-standing friends, but that will certainly develop with many of them over time.
