…one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard in my life.

Do yourself a favor. Carve out 20-minutes of your time, in the next 5 days, and sit down to watch this speech by J.K. Rowling. It’s incredible. Do what I do; sit down at the dinner table with your laptop or fire up the TED iPhone app and watch this. Forget everything you know that she’s written previously, this speech isn’t for kids or Harry Potter fans. It’s much better than that.

It is eloquently, inspiring and well delivered.

I’ll stop here, because I worry I’ll ruin the brilliance in her delivery. Just watch it already.
…don’t forget to share your thoughts on her speech in the comments section.

    Enjoyed the speech very much!
  • Thanks Jim. I like how you state "words are important". Great POV.

Great speech; it reminds us that words are important. What is so troubling within our current politics is that we very seldom take the time to lay out our guiding principles. We are driven by soundbites and drive-thru philosophy.

Imagination - to invision that which is not....to empathize with those whose lives and experiences I have not shared....a truly powerful prescription for solving, or at least dealing with the real issues we face.

Thanks for sharing the speech; powerful is an understatement.
  • Julia, thanks for the frequent comments first of all- I appreciate all of them! ...the positive and the critical.

Also, I'm glad to hear you found it moving. I realized after I posted this that interpreting this speech would be different for everyone, so while for me it was extremely powerful, I know her message might not be as well received to everyone.

I'll have to look up speeches from Elie Wiesel, let me know if you have specific ones you recommend :)

I'm so glad you shared this. I would never have experienced it otherwise and it's defiantly something everyone should hear. She makes words beautiful. I would have to say it is the second best speech I've ever heard. The first being from Elie Wiesel, another author of our time. I got to experience his live at a college campus.

    Thanks!
