This is the best Android phone I’ve ever used… the HTC One X

I had a chance to get my hands on to the new HTC One X (thanks AT&T!). This phone is damn impressive. Here is my opinion why…

The screen is arguably the clearest screen I’ve seen since the iPhone retina display.

It’s not thicker than the iPhone.

8MP rear facing camera sounds impressive, but the photo quality is not.

As you can see, it’s a little larger than the iPhone- but not huge.

Even though it’s plastic, this is the nicest designed Android phone i’ve seen.

We made it to the National Championship! [VIDEO/PHOTOS]

This past weekend, my friends and I made the trek up to Lawrence, Kansas to see our alma mater play in the Final Four (GO Jayhawks!). It was an incredible experience to watch us win and are now playing in the national championship!

This video I took just seconds after KU won, running outside the Wheel/Hawk/Bull!

When we won, here is video I shot with my iPhone of what it was like inside the historic and legendary Wagon Wheel bar in Lawrence, KS

My friend Matt gave me a demo of the hot-n-popular (and backordered) Nest Thermostat. It’s a “smart learning” thermostat that helps you save energy, schedule temperature changes remotely, and control it with your iPad and iPhone (and a lot of other really cool things!). MYTH BUSTING: iPhone 4G, is it really faster than iPhone 3G?

Have you ran the update on your iPhone yet? Have you noticed that your phone says 4G now instead of 3G? (for AT&T phones) So… does this mean your phone is faster?

I ran speed tests to see if the new Apple iOS update to 5.1 from 5.0.1 on AT&T and Verizon is really FASTER than with the 4G icon and symbol. Watch the video blog I shot to find out…

AT&T gave me the new Samsung Rugby Smart to demo. It’s simple, basic, and WATERPROOF! (plus+ it’s shock resistant <– i had fun throwing the phone against the floor and the wall and it still worked!)

This phone seems to be a great option for anyone who just wants a simple, tough and durable phone. And it’s only $99 with a two-year commitment and monthly minimum data plan. Parents with kids could really find this phone appealing

3G, 4G, 5G …what does it all mean? The average person doesn’t know the SPEED difference between 3G or 4G. You need to actually SEE it. I decided to put it to the test by using 4G Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket vs. 3G iPhone 4S (both running on the AT&T network). What does it actually mean when you watch YouTube videos? Or load a webpage like ESPN or cnn.com? Watch my 4G vs 3G video blog speed test to see who wins.

One of my clients is Timberland- and I absolutely love doing video work for them because they make such great products (and they didn’t pay me to write that hahaha ). A new product they have out is a boot called the Helcor Boot. I had no clue about the usage of the material “Helcor” but after putting it to the test, it’s pretty amazing- check out this video blog we created for them (shot/edit by Pat).

the concept + context of the experience for this video is the end result of what happens when customers scanned a QR code in a magazine or at a retail store (that was our project assignment). the idea here was to acknowledge the fact the customer scanned a QR code, then SHOW them how the boot in their hand is tear resistant, water resistant, puncture resistant AND can take the heat!

I’m down in Florida this week (nice vacation here for the holidays, eh?) and I ~~begged~~ dragged my mom + sister to a really cool place called Big Cat Habitat in Sarasota, FL. First, I should point out- it’s not a circus. It’s a sanctuary that rescues lions, tigers, ligers, bears, and other exotic wildlife (that need a permanent home). And even better- it’s a nonprofit run by Kay Rosaires and her son (Clayton) and her daughter <– so cool it’s the entire family! I’ll be honest- I showed up just wanting to be impressed by seeing a lion up close- but this place is much more than that (it’s an educational experience).

While we were there- we were lucky enough to walk over when a few of the lions were “talking to each other”. This is crazy to hear IRL! Watch and listen.

I was amazed at how gorgeous the tigers were up close…

Using the iPhone 4S to v-blog, "Seasons 52 new restaurant tour"

This is what iMovie looks like in the iPhone. I shot this video blog only using the front-cam + iMovie to edit <– so you can see what a single iPhone can do, it’s not amazing- but it does the trick –> http://youtu.be/ztetXlbRW2Y?hd=1

The video blog is a preview of a new restaurant opening here in Kansas City at the Country Club Plaza called Seasons 52. It’s not local- but still an interesting concept: everything on the menu is under 475 calories. The atmosphere is a perfect “date place” (but not exactly on-the-cheap) runs $25-$69 per person for lunch/dinner. They have 100+ wines, 20 by the glass. Seasons 52 opens in Kansas City on November 7th.

18 months ago the iPad was first released and everyone since then has been waiting for the official iPad app to be released. Well- it’s finally here! I have to admit, using your fingers with gestures to browse Facebook is just plain fun. I recorded a walkthrough video of the Facebook iPad app to show you just how it works. You can download the Facebook iPad app in the App Store or here (there is also a new version if the iPhone app out as well).

$413 million dollar Kauffman Center, here’s a private tour…

It took 11 years, but the building that looks like a giant silver snail shell in downtown Kansas City is about to open! The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts cost $413 million dollars, sits on 18 acres, and has 2 halls inside (one for theatre, the other for concerts). Kristin gave me and my friend Pat a private tour- and we put together this video blog of the Kauffman Center. Check it out! I also took this and this panoramic photos with my iPhone while I was there.

btw, Pat (who works with me at @digitalev) was behind the camera and did all the edits <– which i think he did awesome!

I’ve been in Toronto for the past couple of days at the Toronto International Film Fest …while I was there Josh, a bartender at Pease did a demo of what happens when you cool your beer with liquid nitrogen. Isn’t this crazy!?! (i didn’t know you could drink this). You can do this with alcohol and other shots too (it makes any liquid immediately cold).

117 Shipping Containers = ART in Kansas City!

Thanks to TKC and local b.a. photog Eric Bowers, I saw through my feeds about a new art installation you can checkout, near Liberty Memorial in Kansas City. There are 117 stacked containers, and it can withstand over 90MPH winds (KMBC has an article). Check out this video blog I shot of the art project AND I even did an interactive 360 panoramic photo as well.

BTW, my mic + audio got jacked, so you’ll noticed i had to re-dub the last parts of the audio on the later cuts in video. [sigh]

Want to see the speed of Twitter during an earthquake?

It’s incredible to see the speed of conversation(s) and mention(s) on Twitter about this Virginia earthquake today. Pat and I pulled up TweetDeck and saw this!

**update** Twitter reported officially that within a minute of the reported earthquake, there were over 40,000 #earthquake related tweets. And there were about 5,500 Tweets per second (TPS). For context, this TPS is more than Osama Bin Laden’s death & on par w/ the Japanese quake.

THE AMAZING BEER POUR FILLER UPPER THINGY!!!!

Last Friday, I was at a Kansas City Royals game and I came across this nifty device (watch this video i took of it). This device is hooked up to a keg, and it can pour up to 50 beers per 1-minute, with just one person using it. The plastic glasses have a floppy fridge-magnet inside, a circle which sticks itself to a corresponding donut-shape strip around the filling-hole (they’re also reported to cost 45 cents per cup each …compared to 10 cents, and $2,000 per dispenser).

I did some research and Wired has a great write-up on “how it works“. These things are made by a company called Grinon Industries and it’s called Bottoms Up.

Dancing on TechCrunchTV with Mike Arrington’s assistant

You can certainly put this on the list of things I never thought I’d ever do. Doing the DOUGIE with Mike Arrington‘s executive assistant (Greg Barto). While I was in San Francisco, I saw that TechCrunch published a blog post asking people make requests for him to do anything you wanted. That’s right, anything you want. Arrington is invested in a startup from LA/Kansas City called Zaarly (which my GF works at). It’s a really cool startup that is an App/website that allows you to buy and sell stuff (goods and services) …and it’s hyperlocal.

The back story here is I decided to Zaarly $25 bucks for Greg to, “teach the Exact Target CoTweet staff how to DOUGIE” (i was at CoTweet‘s offices for meetings in SF).

So I Zaarly’ed …and then it happened.
Me, the Exact Target team, and some friends all learned how to DOUGIE.

Interview with KCTV5 about social networking tips for parents

KCTV5 asked me to come on to their morning show with Carol Long to talk about what parents can do to let their kids use social networking tools like Facebook and still keep tabs. During the interview, I shared 5 tips …but I ran out of time and didn’t get to share a new service I think parents should consider. A new service called Zone Alarm SocialGuard allows you to monitor Facebook for your kids. It’s only $2 per month/$20 per year (pretty cheap if you ask me). What I really like about this service is it’s “invisible” (your kids won’t know you’re monitoring them). And the service sends email alerts right away to parents (this way you don’t have to login to see if there are things that need your attention). WSJ has a great review on SocialGuard on it, if you’re interested.

Do you know HOW my camera is doing this?

While I was flying over Iowa in a small plane (my friend Cory has one), I brought my point-n-shoot camera to take pictures. I noticed when I was pointing it at the propeller -then- holding down the “focus” button on my camera the propeller slowed down. Watch this video to see what happens. Do you know why it does this? It’s a really odd phenomenon. I wish I knew what was happening and how this worked. It’s kinda eerie. Tell me in the comments if you can help explain why this happens!

My friends Scott and Sara were on our way back from an incredible 4th of July weekend, and we just happened to drive through the bubbling metropolis of Dyersville, Iowa! We passed signs for the “Field of Dreams” <– as in the ACTUAL baseball field from the movie!!! So we stopped and checked it out. It was exactly as I pictured it to be. So authentic. So incredible. And in the middle of nowhere. I filmed this video blog when we were there.
